The first annual Coomera
Valley Fun Fest was an overwhelming success! Held at the
Centre on the 29th of April 2006, the
day drew in a huge crowd, and was filled with
laughter and live entertainment.
Kicking off at 10am with a BBQ
sausage sizzle and live performances from well-known local bands
Adelle, Anersha and The Flash, there was no shortage of things
to do and see for people of all ages and interests, with a huge
variety of sporting games and demonstrations running throughout
the day. There was professional guest appearances from Queensland
Beach Volleyball and Basketball, as well as family-oriented
sporting activities run by the GCCC Get Active Program, KidsSports,
and even the Young at Heart (for the over 50s).
For the littlies, there was even
free pony rides, a petting zoo, two jumping castles with super slides,
balloons, face painting, fairy floss and much more.
The day also
saw the ribbon-cutting of the Centre's new walkway, launch of the
Young at Heart initiative
and also of The Rage,
the Centre's new live performance and practice area for teens.
With a strong focus on community
awareness and unity, and breaking the intergenerational gaps within
the community, the event further showcased community groups and
organisations such as Care for Life, Guide Dogs Australia, Rotary,
North Coast Communities for Children, Life Line, YARA, Drug Arm,
the Young at Heart etc. There was a number of demonstrations, stalls
and information forums addressing various community issues such
as ‘Breaking the Domestic Violence Cycle’, suicide prevention,
obesity and an anti-abduction program. Keep
an eye out for further updates on next year's Coomera
Valley Fun Fest! |
