DRUG ARM Australasia is a non-government,
non-profit organisation committed to the promotion of a healthy
lifestyle without the use of unnecessary drugs.
The name DRUG ARM comes from Drug Awareness,
Rehabilitation and Management. Drug Arm Australasia currently
operates as a registered charity in New South Wales, Queensland
and South Australia.
DRUG ARM provides a vital outreach of compassion
and caring through education, awareness, prevention and support
programs in the area of alcohol and other drug use based on
Christian philosophies.
Their Gold Coast branch is based here at
the Youth Centre, and currently offers support and programs
such as SOS: Street Outreach Services, PSP: Personal Support
Program and Schoolies Week Programs.

SOS:
Street Outreach Services |
The Street Outreach Service reaches out to provide support,
information, referrals and transport to individuals or groups
of young people on the streets, who are at risk of becoming
homeless and/or dependant on alcohol and other illicit drugs.
SOS offers:
• Hot and cold drinks, biscuits,
clothing and blankets
• A listening ear and caring
emotional support
• Transport in emergency situations
• Information/brochures e.g.
health issues, accommodation
• Verbal support/information
on issues regarding health, social or lifestyle issues,
alcohol and other drugs
• Referrals and connection
to other professional agencies who offer long term support
programs; e.g. rehabilitation, detoxification centres and
DRUG ARMS MOSHPIT and HART programs.
|
PSP:
Personal Support Program |
The Personal Support Program (PSP) delivers personal one
on one support to clients with long term barriers to employment.
It is a bridge between short-term crisis services and employment
assisted programs like job network.
PSP Consultants offer a range of services including but
not limited to counselling, support, advocacy, mediation,
information and referrals to other community support agencies
and primary health and mental health workers.

Schoolies
Week Programs |
Over 10 days of the Gold Coast Schoolies
Festival, teams of Outreach volunteers operate one of the
Recharge Zones, providing support to the estimated 30-40,000
young people at the Festival. Additionally, CARE conducts
research examining drug- and risk-taking behaviours of young
people at the Festival; this research is also heavily supported
by volunteers.
The Recharge Zone provides drinks, information
and physical support, along with assessment, general support
and reconnection. Consistent with our research, alcohol is
the drug of choice for Gold Coast Schoolies.
Schoolies celebrations show no sign of diminishing
in size, but the important support provided by DRUG ARM is
widely acknowledged as having a significant impact on the
safety of young people celebrating a landmark in their lives. |
